Markku Turunen's PhD dissertation

The title of my PhD dissertation is Jaspis - A Spoken Dialogue Architecture and its Applications.

The dissertation is electronically available in PDF-format (324 pages, 2.65MB).

The dissertation has been awarded as the best computer science doctoral thesis in Finland in 2004 by the Finnish Information Processing Association on the recommendation of the Finnish Society for Computer Science. For more information, see the press release (in Finnish): lehdistötiedote suomeksi.

The Jaspis architecture is released as an open source software and can be downloaded from its homepage (see also release information).

The public defense of the disseration was held on March 13th, 2004. Pictures from the defense and karonkka (an evening occasion) are available. There is also an online version of a photograph exhibition called "26 cities". It contains photographs taken during the writing of the dissertation. The photographs were presented first time in karonkka after the public defense of the thesis.
