Introduction
BackgroundInteraction between humans and technology continues to grow. Examples of this trend are the proliferation of computers and various information appliances, ubiquitous and pervasive computing, wearable computers, interaction techniques making better use of the underutilized senses, and taking into account emotions and the social environment in human-machine interaction. It is not sufficient to be able to construct devices and applications, one must also be able to make them fit for human use. The interaction between humans and technology can only be improved by understanding the natural means of communication and information processing (perception, learning, thinking, and memory). UCIT aims at giving the multidisciplinary doctoral education that is necessary for such multidisciplinary research and development. Many Master's programs in Finland, and abroad, provide a good basis for doctoral studies in the fields covered by UCIT. UCIT is a cooperation of several Finnish universities that teach and study humans and information technology. Forms of operationThe main activities of UCIT are:
