The last lecture will take place on Tuesday 13th October. We'll have a visiting lecturer talking about haptic research at the University of Glasgow.

Please notice that one can now also enrol for the exam at NettiOpsu.

Lectures

The course contains 14 hours of lectures. The working language of the course is English. The lectures are held in Main building in lecture hall A3, on Tuesdays from 2pm to 4pm starting on Tuesday, September 1st. The lectures will carry on until October 13rd.

A prerequisity for the course is Introduction to User Interfaces (ui). For those writing the course paper adequate academic writing skills are required (e.g., Scientific Writing, Introduction to Research Methods).

Assignments

The weekly assignments will be gone through in assignment groups. There are two groups available to choose from: on Wednesdays at 12-14 in lecture hall B3118, and on Thursdays at 12-14 in lecture hall B3109. The 12 hours of assigments consist of both readings and design tasks that will be announced on the Schedule page roughly one week before the return date.

Demo session

In addition to the lectures and assigments, the students must participate in a demo session during the course to gain hands-on experience on haptics.

Course paper

The course paper is optional for those willing to pass the course with more credit points (8 ETCS). More information about the written course paper will be available later during the course. The paper can be, e.g., designing or implementing a haptic interaction method or application, or an extensive review on some relevant topic.

Examination

The exam will cover both the lectures and the literature given during the course.

The first examination of the course is on Thursday, October 29th from 4pm to 8pm at lecture hall D10a+b. (Sign in NettiOpsu and enrol on the exam here.)

The second examination is on Thursday, November 26th from 4pm to 8pm at lecture hall D10a+b. (Sign in NettiOpsu and enrol on the exam here.)

The third examination is on Thursday, Januart 14th, 2010, from 4pm to 8pm at lecture hall D10a+b. (Sign in NettiOpsu and enrol on the exam here.)

Grading

The grading will be determined based on the exam (30 pts) and optional course paper (20 pts). The assigment bonuses will be added to the exam.
